Ahora que no somos demasiado viejos todaví

I am 34. These last five years have been difficult for me. Europe is a crazy place. I feel lost. My friends feel lost. We are getting old, a bit too old to keep on dancing. But we dance; we sleep during the day and go out at night in a try not to have to reflect on the state of things. Everything is going so fast…
ahora que no somos demasiado viejos todavía (now that we are not too old yet) is my effort to produce a reflective space/state; a place to feel safe from all that speed we live in. It is a solo about the passing of time; a dance on how to enjoy movement to compose a formal architecture that allows emotion to burst.

JESÚS RUBIO GAMO (Madrid, 1982) is an independent dancer and choreographer based in Madrid. After studying ballet and contemporary dance and graduating at the Royal School of Dramatic Art, Jesús was awarded with a MAE-AECI grant to develop dance studies in a foreign country. He moved to London where he completed an MA in choreography at London Contemporary Dance School (Distinction). He has also studied an MA in Performative Studies at Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. His work has been presented at National and International Festivals, in museums, at non conventional spaces and in the street. Compulsive beauty seeker, he never stops finding violence and sarcasm and that dichotomy is one of the main driving forces of his work. He has been artist in residence in institutions such as La Casa Encendida (Madrid), The Place (London), La Caldera (Barcelona), Auditorio de Tenerife or Wales Lab (National Theatre of Wales). His last two pieces are BOLERO, a short dance selected for Aerowaves 2017, and Now that we are not too old yet, a solo that was premiered in Festival Danza_MOS Conde Duque, Madrid, in October 2016.
